Sunday – OCFF

I got up Sunday morning and made SURE that I was able to make it to the Gospel Sing-along Jam. I was very happy I did. It was hosted by Sam Turton (who I always enjoy listening to) with the help of Jane Lewis, Tannis Slimmon, Katherine Wheatley, Wendell Ferguson, Michele Josef, Brian Blain and Doug Wilde. Special guests also came up and led songs. Tricia D. Brubacher (who I saw but didn’t really meet at Eaglewood) played a song. I sang harmonies with Allison Brown and also got up for a tune with Manitoba Hal. What fun! This was one of my highlights of the weekend. What a great way to start a Sunday morning!  We then attended the Estelle Klein Award interview and brunch (Richard Flohil interviewed the winner of the award Grit Laskin). It was an interesting interview and we learned so much about Grit (including how he got that nickname). He is an master luthier. Not only is his talent in the sound and styling of the guitar but also the amazing inlay designs that he creates. Oh, if only I had the money for that – I could get on the long waiting list!  Check out the video they made to honour him.
You never know what you will see – like a Sousaphone (photo from Saturday in front of the hotel – Thanks Mike Bourgeault for the pic)
We packed up our gear and said our goodbyes (which took almost an hour when everyone is leaving at about the same time). Another successful conference (and reunion of friends).
Kudos to all who planned, volunteered and participated in making it such a rewarding experience.
Until next year.
